Judicial review challenge over fate of town hall ended: report

Local activists are said to have abandoned an attempt to take the London Borough of Haringey to judicial review over the future of Hornsey town hall.

The Hampstead and Highgate Express has reported that the campaign’s lawyers found that developer Far East Consortium had previously responded to an area that campaigners previously believed it had not.

Campaigners had raised most of their £20,000 target for legal fees, which will now be returned to donors.

Under the plans approved the east wing of the town hall will be converted into a hotel.

Opponents of the project had hoped to argue that the bid with which FEC won the council’s backing had “changed beyond recognition by the time that they applied for planning permission, this should invalidate the procurement (sale) process, so we want this tested in the courts”.
