Matrix Chambers QC appointed High Court judge

Employment and discrimination specialist Thomas Linden QC of Matrix Chambers has been appointed as a High Court judge, assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division.

Called to the Bar in 1989, Linden took silk in 2006. He served on the Attorney General’s ‘A’ Panel of Treasury Counsel, was the Chair of the Visitatorial Board of Oxford University and is a Bencher at Gray’s Inn. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2005 and as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2019.

He has acted for a wide range of clients – claimants and defendants – and has appeared in a number of the landmark cases in his fields in the Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union, with more than a hundred reported cases.

Linden will take up appointment on 13 January 2020 consequential to the elevation of Lord Justice Popplewell.

The Judiciary website said it is anticipated that a further three appointments at High Court judge level will be announced in the coming months.

Earlier this month public, administrative and children law specialists were among 24 new Deputy High Court Judges.
