Tributes paid to planning barrister Jonathan Easton KC

Tributes have been paid to leading planning and public law barrister Jonathan Easton KC, who passed away at the weekend.

Kings Chambers said Easton had been “surrounded by the love of his family over the last few days, which befits a husband and father who himself gave out so much love”.

The set added: “It is less than a month ago that Chambers gathered to congratulate him on his appointment as King’s Counsel, having been postponed a year earlier following his diagnosis. His brother has written of how proud Jonathan was of being a Member of Kings Chambers and the friends with whom he had worked. That is little compared to the affection and esteem in which he was held by all who knew him and worked with him.

“He was a lovely warm charismatic and big-hearted friend who we will all miss dearly. Our hearts go out to his wife, sons and family at this time. Our lives are indelibly richer for having had him in it and the world was a brighter place for his role in it.”

Cornerstone Barristers, where Easton was a member between 1996 and 2006, said it was “deeply saddened” to learn of his passing.

Philip Coppel KC and Tom Cosgrove KC, Joint Heads of Chambers at Cornerstone Barristers, said: “Jonathan was an exceptional barrister and an even better person. His warmth, generosity, and dedication to his work and colleagues will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with his wife, sons, and family, as well as his colleagues at Kings Chambers, during this difficult time.”

Everyone at Cornerstone Barristers would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Jonathan’s family and all who knew him.
