Law firm Devonshires has appointed Nikki Bowker as head of its litigation and dispute resolution team, succeeding Philip Barden.

Bowker joined the firm in 2014 and became a partner in 2019. Her practice focuses on commercial litigation, covering judicial review and wider public law matters, including disclosure, public interest immunity, vulnerable witnesses and special measures.

Bowker has worked on a number of high-profile matters, including the #TheyKnew campaign launched with Action for Accountability and campaigner Maggie Oliver. She also acted for Hayley Crawford, founder of the ‘Ask for Angela’ public safety campaign.

Bowker began her career at Harrowells LLP in York, where took a trainee solicitor role in in 2012. She was a paralegal specialising in litigation and dispute resolution at the firm for a year, before moving to a solicitor role at Devonshires.

Commenting on her appointment, Bowker said: “I’ve seen a considerable amount of change and growth in my time at Devonshires and I’m excited to lead this next phase of the department’s continued and strengthened success.

“I’ve been incredibly proud to work at Devonshires. The firm truly cares about nurturing talent and supporting the next generation of lawyers, which I saw first-hand when I was made partner in 2019 whilst pregnant.

“I can’t thank Philip enough for the support he has given me over the years and I look forward to working with him as he continues to advise our brilliant roster of clients.”

Bowker is a committee member of the Fraud Advisory Panel and was previously a non-executive director of Golden Lane Housing.
