Waste authority awards law firm £1.47m contract to advise on expiry of waste management contract and procurement of new services

The East London Waste Authority (ELW) has appointed law firm Browne Jacobson to a £1.47m contract to provide legal services as the arrangements for delivering the authority's Integrated Wast Management Strategy (IWMS) near expiry.
In 2002 ELWA signed a 25 year contract with Shanks PLC (now Renewi), a leading waste management company, to deliver the IWMS.
Under the agreement, Browne Jacobson will provide legal services covering:
- Contract expiry and transition: support with the expiry and transition of the IWMS Contract. Contract expiry and transition consist of: expiry assessment and expiry process;
- Future services delivery: support with the procurement of new services to be in place following expiry of the IWMS Contract. Future services delivery consists of: outline business case; procurement contract documents development; procurement stage;
- Full business case;
- Risk register; and
- Meetings.
The contract started on 1 March 2024 and is due to run until 29 February 2028.
