Securing the future of council housing - Sharpe Pritchard

Date: Tuesday 10th December 2024
Time: 08:30am – 09:15am
Location: Online/Teams

Join us and Steve Partridge, Director and Head of Housing Consultancy at Savills to discuss the future of council housing and what this means for the construction sector.

In September, more than 100 council landlords called for the new government to provide more, and better, publicly owned housing, through a report ‘Securing the future of England’s council housing’, commissioned by Southwark Council.

The report includes more than 20 recommendations and offers five key solutions:

  1. A new fair and sustainable HRA model – including an urgent £644 million one-off rescue injection, and long-term, certain rent and debt agreements
  2. Reforms to unsustainable Right to Buy policies
  3. Removing red tape on existing funding
  4. A new, long-term Green & Decent Homes Programme
  5. Urgent action to restart stalled building projects, avoiding the loss of construction sector capacity and a market downturn

Our panel of experts will discuss the report's recommendations, and any further insights since the government’s autumn budget announcements - including any implications for construction.
