The session will be led by Joanna Corbett-Simmons, a Partner in the Education team at Blake Morgan, who brings personal experience as Lead Governor for Safeguarding at the Cathedral School Llandaff, in Wales.
Joanna will be joined by guest speakers Ian Brownhill and Jeremy Rogers. Together, the speakers will provide practical insight into how safeguarding duties operate, drawing on real‑world experience from education, sport governance and regulatory proceedings.
Key themes include:
- Safeguarding law within education settings across England & Wales
- Legal and practical responsibilities of education providers, governing bodies and independent coaches/consultants
- Information sharing and collaboration, including how ICO guidance applies in safeguarding scenarios
- The role of codes of practice, resources, and procedures
- How bodies promote and facilitate a positive reporting culture
- Common challenges and practical lessons learned from both real-world situations and cases
This session is designed for education providers, sports organisations, governing bodies and professionals involved in safeguarding, compliance and governance, with a clear focus on practical application and good practice rather than theory.
