To start the series, Edmund Walters, Marcia Hyde and Paul Fuller will discuss the concept of ‘animal sentience’ and its impact on animal welfare law, as well as review the work of the Animal Sentience Committee established under the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Act 2022 ('AWSA').
About the speakers
Marcia Hyde Marcia’s main practice involves serious & complex child abuse matters including those where there are issues of sexual abuse, non-accidental injury and the death of a child. She acts on behalf of local authorities, parents, children’s guardians and extended family members in such cases at all levels of court. She also has a particular interest in cases relating to contact with children in local authority care. |
Edmund Walters Edmund has experience in both civil and criminal law. He is a specialist in property and regulatory law. Edmund is both a defence advocate and a prosecutor for local authorities. Edmund believes that many cases can be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties before a fully contested trial. Edmund is skilled at finding the shortest and least expensive route to such an outcome, if that is best for the client. Edmund has extensive experience of successfully mediating civil cases. |
