Nine law firms appointed to £65m police consortium legal services panel

The Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) has appointed nine law firms to a national framework for legal services worth up to £65m over four years.

The national framework will supply legal services to a consortium of police forces, including GLA functional bodies, police forces, police authorities, and various other public bodies including all local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Six years ago, when the framework was last re-tendered, the contract was worth between £18m and £24m over four years.

The award of the latest contract was delayed by a month after MOPAC received a challenge during the standstill period.

The contract is made up of five lots:

  • Lot 1A Procurement, Contract and Commercial and Governance: Complex Projects and Disputes
  • Lot 1B Procurement, Contract and Commercial and Governance: Business as Usual
  • Lot 2 Civil Litigation and Personal Injury
  • Lot 3 Employment
  • Lot 4 Property - Commercial, Residential Property and PFI

Lots 1A and 1B are two distinct lots, with "their own pricing and requirements," the contracts award notice from MOPAC reads.

The successful law firms were:

  • TLT (Lots 1A, 1B, 3 and 4)
  • Weightmans (1A and 2)
  • Blake Morgan (1A, 1B)
  • DAC Beachcroft (1B)
  • Plexus (2)
  • DWF Law (2)
  • Capsticks Solicitors (3)
  • Gowling WLG (UK) (3)
  • Michelmores (4)

The contract began on 1 May 2021 and is scheduled to end on 31 March 2025.
