Basildon to return to High Court for injunction preventing re-occupation of Dale Farm

Basildon Council is to return to the High Court to obtain an injunction preventing the re-occupation of Dale Farm once clearance of the site is complete.

The local authority said it expected the High Court to decide on its application tomorrow (4 November) and set a return date for the full hearing.

Cllr Tony Ball, Leader of Basildon Council, said: “This is routine practice following a site clearance and something we had always planned to do.

“We believe that some previous residents of Dale Farm plan to illegally re-occupy the site and an injunction, if granted, will put them in contempt of court for doing this.”

Cllr Ball urged travellers not to use Dale Farm for residential purposes and to find new sites legally.

He added: “Work to clear the site is proceeding well, with 46 of the 51 illegal plots clear, with hard standings removed from 38 of those. No statics remain on site. “
