DCLG calls for suggestions for changes to building regulations

The government is calling on local authorities, businesses and individuals to suggest changes to building regulations.
In a statement the Department for Communities and Local Government said: “The aim of this is not only to establish where it is absolutely necessary for regulation to be changed or updated, but also to look at where we can strip away regulation – either because it is unnecessary or because there are other ways to achieve the same outcomes.”
The DCLG added that it was vital that building regulations are proportionate and fit for purpose, responding to changes in technology, science, build practices and construction techniques. It said it was also particularly keen to explore what could be done to ensure compliance.

Those suggestions put forward will be fed into discussions with the DCLG’s external partners and the Building Regulations Advisory Committee in the autumn.
This will lead to a consultation in late 2011 on a set of proposals that would be introduced in 2013.
