Weightmans pursues tie-up with two other law firms

National law firm Weightmans has confirmed that it is in talks with North West-based Mace & Jones and London and Kent practice Vizards Wyeth.

Managing partner Patrick Gaul said he hoped terms could be agreed shortly. “There is no formal agreement in place at this stage but we are optimistic that we can come to terms within a reasonable time frame," he added.

“We have spent some time already looking at the strategy and the vision and we are at a stage now where we are investigating whether a mutually acceptable deal can be put together and we would anticipate being able to make a further announcement shortly.”

Weightmans announced in November 2010 that it was on target to reach a record £60m turnover, having exceeded its half yearly billing target. Its fee income for 2009/2010 was £56.2m.

Mace & Jones has offices in Liverpool, Manchester and Knutsford while Vizards Wyeth operates out of London and Dartford, Kent.
