£27,803 - £31,364 per annum

Are you a law graduate who is passionate about place and the built environment with aspirations of becoming a planning & highways solicitor?  The Council has a fantastic opportunity for candidates to apply for a graduate solicitor apprenticeship.  Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the apprentice has the opportunity to be appointed as a planning & highways solicitor for the Council. 

You will join the Corporate & Environmental Law Team with the training focused primarily in planning & highways but with broader experience opportunities available to ensure a well-rounded apprenticeship.  The apprenticeship will meet the general apprenticeship standard.

You will gain first-hand experience dealing with case work, drafting documents, providing legal advice, attending client meetings, carrying out legal research, shadowing legal colleagues at committees such as Planning & Rights of Way Committee.

You will work in a friendly and supportive team.  You will have both an in-house workplace mentor and an educational mentor provided by the apprenticeship provider.

This is a level 7 graduate solicitor apprenticeship for 30-36 months and will involve one study day a week with the apprenticeship provider.  During your apprenticeship you will collate a portfolio of experience that will be used as evidence for your final assessment together with formal assessments (SQE1 & SQE2) during the programme. 

To be eligible you must:

You must also meet one of the following:

  • Currently studying at Nottingham Trent University or the University of Nottingham; or
  • Resident of Nottinghamshire or Nottingham; or
  • Currently employed by Nottinghamshire County Council.

You will be asked to confirm qualifications and eligibility at application pre-screening. Applicants who do not meet the pre-screen eligibility will not be able to progress their application.

Applicants will be sent a test during shortlisting before final shortlisting for interview. Interviews will be held week commencing 24th June 2024. Final shortlisted applicants will be notified by email, with a date for an in person interview.
