Bevan Brittan grows revenue by 8% to £37.7m in 2015/16

Bevan Brittan increased revenue by 8% to £37.7m in 2015/16, a financial year in which it opened a new office in Leeds.

The law firm said net profits had grown by 9%, while profit per equity partner rose from £284,000 to £305,000.

The firm has 52 partners and 295 staff across four offices. In addition to Leeds, it has offices in Birmingham, Bristol and London.

Opened in September 2015, the Leeds office now has seven partners, including Judith Barnes, former head of local government at DAC Beachcroft, and Frances Woodhead, ex-head of local government at Eversheds.

Bevan Brittan said it worked with all local authorities in England, a third of all NHS bodies and 40 housing associations – but also worked with more than 100 private sector companies, “who have become an important market sector for the firm”.

Managing partner Duncan Weir said: “These are excellent results for Bevan Brittan. I am delighted that these results have been achieved in the same year as we took the investment costs and time to successfully open our new Leeds office and at a time of investing in new technology to better deliver to our clients. All this was achieved without increasing our already low borrowing levels. It is particularly gratifying to see significant growth in our purely private sector work as well as in our public services work.

“These remain challenging times for both our private sector and public sector clients, and the Brexit vote has only added to the challenges we all face. But with these results, we are in a strong position to continue to successfully deliver to our clients and to continue to manage a profitable and sustainable business.”
