Enfield Council receives highly commended accolade at Law Society awards

London Borough of Enfield Award 300pxThe London Borough of Enfield has been “highly commended” in the practice management category at the Law Society Excellence Awards 2012.

The citation said: "The category judges found that the Enfield Legal Services team’s commitment to best practice, in terms of both developing and maintaining effective approaches, was a key theme throughout their entry.

"The independent verification from internal and external contacts was impressive, proving their serious intention and dedication to being efficient and effective in all that they do."

The winner was law firm JD Spicer & Co. Staffordshire County Council had also been nominated for this award.

The Royal College of Nursing’s legal services team was meanwhile highly commended for excellence in client service. This category was won by Turpin & Miller.

Geoff Wild, Director of Governance & Law at Kent County Council, missed out on the Solicitor of the Year (In-House) award, which went to Paul Heron of Hackney Community Law Centre.

Earlier this month Wild was named Legal Industry Pioneer of the Year at the Financial Times’ Innovative Lawyers Awards for setting up the Law:Public venture with Geldards. 

Roger Smith, Director of human rights organisation Justice since 2001, was recognised by the Law Society with a lifetime achievement award.

Karen Todner of law firm Kaim Todner, solicitor to Gary McKinnon, was named Law Society Gazette Legal Personality of the Year.

Law Society President Lucy Scott-Moncrieff said: “These awards reflect the Law Society’s commitment to the promotion of quality, innovation and client service across the legal profession.”
