Chambers with strong reputation for local government work is to dissolve

A set of barristers’ chambers with a strong reputation for local government work is to dissolve at the end of the year.

The decision by Clarendon Chambers follows the departure of a number of tenants over recent months.

Clarendon had been successful in three panels in the recent procurement exercise run by Lambeth and Southwark Councils.

It was handed the highest score in both childcare and housing litigation, and the second highest score for general litigation (civil).

The relevant panels were readjusted to reflect the fact that Clarendon would not be able to participate in the agreement, which will come into effect in April 2012.

Russell Burton, senior clerk, said: “Chambers is dissolving at the end of this year and its members are making arrangements to go to other sets.

“It is all rather sad, particularly given how well we did in the Lambeth and Southwark tender exercise, but these things happen.”

It is understood that some of Clarendon’s members are seeking to move in groups to other sets.
