Mayor of London under investigation for gifted Taylor Swift tickets
An investigation is underway into the Mayor of London's acceptance of a set of Taylor Swift tickets worth £3,000, the Greater London Authority has confirmed.
According to the GLA's register of gifts and hospitality, Sadiq Khan accepted six gifted tickets to the American pop star's Wembley concert in August 2024.
The tickets, worth an estimated £500 each, were gifted by an event production firm named LS Events.
The investigation comes in response to a complaint about the tickets from GLA assembly member Susan Hall.
The GLA's monitoring officer, Rory McKenna, has since confirmed that he will investigate one of the four allegations raised by Hall.
It is understood that McKenna meanwhile accepted that there was an administrative error, that the wording used for the declaration did not breach policy, and that the Mayor would not be involved in the tendering of contracts.
A spokesperson for the GLA said: "An investigation will now take place to establish if the Mayor exercised an appropriate level of caution in deciding to accept the tickets."
A spokesperson for the Mayor of London stated that any gift accepted by the Mayor "is declared openly and transparently".
They added: "In this case there was an administrative error which was corrected. The Mayor has no involvement in the procurement process for GLA events, nor in the tendering of these contracts.
"The Mayor's office will continue to ensure all the right processes are followed, and looks forward to explaining the approach that was taken in this instance."
