A free school with a Christian ethos is facing legal action over a pupil sent home for having Rastafarian-style dreadlocks.
Tuesday Flanders complained about the school after her 12-year-old son Chikayzea was told that his hair breached policies on pupils’ appearance.
She said the hair style was part of her son’s religion and so should be allowed.
A statement on the school website said: “The Fulham Boys School has a clear uniform and appearance policy. Parents are informed that the policy is strictly enforced.
“The policy itself specifies that any parent seeking modification should raise the issue with the headmaster, and this invitation to discuss any concerns with the policy is made clear at open days.”
It added that the school could “confirm that a complaint has been received following the school’s request to a pupil that his hair comply with the appearance policy”.
The school said it would respond to Ms Flanders’ complaint within 15 days.
Fulham Boys is a Church of England free school, which says it is “welcoming of all faiths and none”.
