LLG (Lawyers in Local Government) is inviting entries for the LLG Awards 2025, including a new 'Rising Star' award named in honour of the late Suki Binjal.

The 2025 Awards consist of six categories:

  • Junior Lawyer of the Year
  • Legal Team of the Year
  • Legal Professional of the Year
  • Excellence in Training Award
  • Significant Contribution to Local Government
  • Suki Binjal Rising Star Award

The deadline for entries is 24 March 2025.

LLG said: “The LLG Awards provides the perfect opportunity for you to give your team or colleagues the recognition that they deserve – it is a celebration dedicated to honouring their determination, innovation and expertise.”

Suki Binjal, who died in December 2024, was president of LLG from 2017 to 2019. She held a number of senior legal roles in local government during her career, including Director of Law at Hackney Council and interim monitoring officer at Northumberland County Council.

The award in her name “honours mid-career lawyers who exemplify the dedication, leadership, and passion that defined Suki Binjal’s career in local government law”, LLG said.

“As a highly respected public sector solicitor, Suki was known for her unwavering commitment to legal excellence, good governance, and the development of future leaders. This award serves as a tribute to her legacy by recognising individuals who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the public sector and are ready to take the next step towards senior leadership roles. It is designed to celebrate those who have not only excelled in their own careers but have also made a meaningful impact on their colleagues, organisations, and the wider legal profession.”

Winners at the LLG Awards 2024 included Brighton and Hove City Council, which was named Legal Team of the Year.
