Bevan Brittan advises joint waste partnership on multi-million pound contract extension

Law firm Bevan Brittan has advised the East Sussex Joint Waste Partnership – which consists of Hastings Borough, Rother District and Wealden District councils – on a seven-year extension and variation with Biffa related to services including waste collection, street and beach cleansing.

Under the £119m contract, Biffa will introduce a new fleet of waste collection vehicles which operate on hydrotreated vegetable oil.

The parties will also work together to implement the government’s Simpler Recycling initiatives, including the introduction of weekly household food waste collections from March 2026.

The Energy & Resource Management team at Bevan Brittan supported the East Sussex Joint Waste Partnership on the new agreement.

Sarah Innes, Legal Director and infrastructure specialist at Bevan Brittan, worked on the contract alongside solicitor Priscilla Allen.

Innes said: “We are delighted to have supported these councils with this major contract extension and variation. The multi-million pound agreement will have a major impact on the East Sussex region and also ensure that services are delivered in a greener way, in line with the various policies and targets that have been adopted in this space.

“It’s exciting to see local authorities embracing sustainable solutions and we are sure that this latest agreement will be a fantastic platform for the councils and Biffa to continue their already-fruitful partnership.”
