Sharpe Pritchard advises Southend on its largest ever regeneration project

Sharpe Pritchard has acted for Southend-on-Sea Borough Council in what is said to be the local authority’s most significant and largest ever regeneration project.

The law firm advised on the 10-month procurement process that began in March 2018, and which has now seen Southend sign an agreement with Swan Housing Association to form a joint venture partnership to deliver the regeneration of the town’s Queensway estate.

The investment will involve hundreds of millions of pounds and will transform the estate and the town centre.

Sharpe Pritchard has been the sole legal adviser to the council throughout the project, from inception to final signature.

Justin Mendelle, the partner at Sharpe Pritchard who led for the firm on the project, said: “We are really proud to have been involved in such an exciting project, which will have a transformative impact on Southend and the people who live there. The use of the competitive dialogue procedure ensured that a robust and competitive process delivered the best value and true quality for the Council and the residents it serves.”
