Mirza Ahmad to leave Birmingham City Council

The most senior lawyer at the UK’s largest local authority is to leave his post, it has been announced.

Dr Mirza Ahmad, Corporate Director of Governance at Birmingham City Council, said: “It has been a great honour and a privilege for me, over the past 11 years, to serve the largest local authority in the UK. I am delighted, therefore, that I was able to play my part in raising excellence within the City Council and I wish the Council, its elected members and officers, every success for the future.

“As for my future, I will reflect on my future career direction and I remain firmly committed to promoting Birmingham, the legal profession and serving the public good.”

Dr Ahmad, who was President of the Association of Council Secretaries and Solicitors in 2009/10, will leave Birmingham at the end of July.

His departure comes after a corporate restructuring at the council that affected a number of chief officer posts.

Cllr Alan Rudge said: “As Cabinet Member for Equalities and Human Resources I would like to acknowledge the important and valuable contribution that Mirza Ahmad has made to a range of City Council issues and projects and wish him the very best for the future. ”

Birmingham’s chief executive, Stephen Hughes, said: “Mirza has been a committed, effective and loyal senior manager for Birmingham City Council since 2000, giving solid advice and leading on important initiatives consistently throughout that time. With his talent,
Mirza will have a great future, and I wish him all the best.”
