Housing specialist Waters joins Devonshires

Law firm Devonshires has bolstered its corporate and governance team with the hire of housing specialist Matthew Waters.

Waters, who has 17 years’ experience, joins from Bevan Brittan. His appointment takes the number of partners at Devonshires to 42.

He works with organisations across the housing sector including local authorities, registered providers, developers, contractors and funders on a broad range of commercial, corporate and regulatory matters.

Devonshires said Waters "brings experience in corporate structuring, joint ventures, group reorganisations, estate regeneration, public and private partnerships for large scale housing and regeneration projects, structuring of development deals and funding".

His advisory work includes supporting local authorities on the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) and wider housing regulatory matters, and registered providers on corporate and governance matters.

Waters said: “This is an exciting opportunity to join the one of the country’s leading housing law firms. I am delighted to join the partnership and look forward to adding my expertise to this dynamic firm.”

Andrew Cowan, Head of Social Housing at Devonshires, said: “Matthew has a wealth of knowledge of the housing sector and his expertise will be a huge asset for Devonshires and our clients. I look forward to working closely with him in the coming months and wish him great success in his future career with the firm.”
