11KBW public law silk follows joint head of chambers in being named High Court judge

A leading public law silk at 11KBW, Karen Steyn QC, has been appointed a High Court judge.
She will take up appointment on 1 October 2019 consequential to the retirement of Mr Justice King. She will be assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division.
Steyn’s profile on the 11KBW website highlights that she is a specialist advocate in the fields of public law, human rights, public international law and information law. “She has extensive experience dealing with complex, cutting-edge public law litigation,” it adds.
Her appointment came shortly after the announcement that the set’s joint head of chambers, John Cavanagh QC, was one of seven new High Court judges.
Steyn was appointed at the same time as William Trower QC, a financial and commercial barrister at South Square Chambers.
He will take up appointment on 1 October 2019 consequential to the retirement of Mr Justice Peter Smith. He will be assigned to the Chancery Division.
