Council takes out injunction to block suspected illegal caravan site

A local authority has taken out a High Court injunction to prevent the suspected preparation of an illegal caravan site.

Gravesham Borough Council took action after hardcore was delivered at the site in Valley Lane, Culverstone.

The site had also been connected with electricity and water over the weekend of 3 and 4 September.

The council said its enforcement officers “strongly suspected the site owners were getting set to create a site for the stationing of mobile homes for residential purposes on Green Belt land in breach of planning control”.

Gravesham brought a claim under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, section 187B.

Mr Justice Supperstone last week granted the injunction against Charlene Eastwood, Marney Eastwood and persons unknown. The order prevents any caravans or mobile homes being brought onto the site. It also blocks the storage or bringing anything onto the site which could create a hardstanding.

Gravesham’s Leader Cllr John Burden said: "This council is determined to uphold the law and prevent illegal caravan sites and this shows that we are serious in taking these matters to the High Court quickly and in time to stop unlawful development."
