Bevan Brittan hires partner to head information law team

Law firm Bevan Brittan has hired James Cassidy as a partner to lead its specialist information law team.

Cassidy was previously Head of Legal at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He is re-joining the firm, having trained and qualified while at Bevan Brittan.

He said: “I am delighted to be returning to Bevan Brittan in this important role. For all organisations – whether they are in the public or private sector – compliance with the new data protection regime is a critical concern.

“Non-compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR now presents a real risk to clients, and the consequences of non-compliance could be very costly.  The impact of the new law is wide ranging and clients need to be proactive in order to manage these risks effectively. I’m looking forward to working with clients to help them plot a course through this complex new regime.”

Adam Kendall, head of Litigation, Advisory and Regulatory at Bevan Brittan, said: “Information law is now a boardroom agenda issue in protecting commercial interests, upholding individual rights and managing risk.

“Our team will offer specialist advice in an area that our clients tell us is of increasing concern. We are meeting these challenges by providing an expanded range of expertise in a centralised and specialist group working across a range of industry sectors.

“All organisations must ensure they have the right governance, compliance and monitoring in place to ensure data protection and other breaches never occur. To that end, much of the team’s work will be to assist organisations in identifying and responding to those risks.”
