Councillor in Scotland banned from council meetings for five months over behaviour

Alasdair MacPherson was referred by Stirling Council to the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life, “following a number of complaints received from members of the public and others regarding his conduct at a meeting of the licensing board and at an internal council meeting,” a council statement said.

The matter was then referred to the Standards Commission for Scotland, which oversees councillors’ conduct in way similar to that of the former Standards Board in England.

It suspended Cllr MacPherson from all council meetings for five months although he may still hold surgeries for constituents and deal with their enquiries.
