Councillors in Cornwall criticised for using Twitter in meetings: BBC

Councillors in Cornwall have been admonished for using social networking site Twitter during meetings, the BBC has reported.

Cornwall County Council chairwoman Pat Harvey publicly criticised several councillors for the nature of their tweets, but stopped short of banning use of the sites during meetings.

The BBC said two councillors had apologised for any offence caused, but had vowed to continue using Twitter.

According to the broadcaster, the messages included: “naughty boy!”, “high level of accidental sexual innuendo in the council today”, “she said phones must be switched off (I love that we’re completely ignoring that instruction)” and “chairman indirectly instructs us not to tweet from the meeting. Whoops!”

Cornwall County Council told the BBC it was developing a social media policy to cover use of sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
