Resilience in the Workplace – looking after your mental health, through COVID & beyond

  • The working environment in 2020 has changed in ways, and at a pace, never seen before as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic.
  • We have all had to adapt very quickly to new and, for many, entirely alien working practices, with almost no time to prepare in advance.
  • While the technological side of things has, by and large, worked relatively well, and is now part of our day to day working lives, the effect of the pandemic on our well-being and mental health has been far more stealthy, far-reaching and difficult to deal with.
  • Common issues now include:
    • Feelings of isolation and even abandonment
    • Lack of motivation
    • Absence of any face-to-face social interaction, kettle chats, team trips to the pub etc
    • Heightened FOMO!
    • Real concerns over job security, in a world of ever-decreasing budgets and financial pressures
    • An absence of learning on the job and effective mentoring
    • Increased workloads, as more is asked of fewer people
    • Screen fatigue and the dreaded “Zoom fails” (small children, pets, and “you aren’t on mute Kevin...”)
  • All in all, a hugely challenging, and largely new, environment which has, and continues to, put an enormous strain on our emotional well-being.
  • In this one-hour webinar, Andrew will be looking at where we are now, how we have got here and, most importantly, the practical steps we can take to monitor our own mental health, and then take care of ourselves, and others, during these most difficult of times.

Content

During the webinar, Andrew will look at the following:

  • The effect of COVID 19 on legal practice – the difficulties and issues faced day to day, and the effect they have had on mental health and well-being
  • Some tips to help minimise these effects in the short term
  • How to identify, monitor and then begin to address the wide-ranging mental health difficulties arising from “working from anywhere”
  • Resilience – what it is, where it comes from, what we can do to build it, and how we can learn to draw on it when we need it
  • A personal journey - a look at how mental health issues arose in Andrew’s own professional career and learnings he took from that experience
  • How to identify mental health issues in your colleagues and others, and how to help them cope and move forward

Target Audience

  • The webinar will be relevant to anyone working in the legal departments at local authorities, from trainees and paralegals, through to monitoring officers, and everyone in between.
  • It will be highly practical and there will be time set aside for questions and comments at the end.
