Two 'Baby Peter' social workers charged with misconduct by the General Social Care Council

The General Social Care Council (GSCC) has announced that two of the Haringey social workers involved in the Baby Peter case, Gillian Christou and Maria Ward, will face misconduct hearings.

Gillian Christou is charged with the failure to keep records of supervision meetings up to date, failure to document evidence for a risk management plan and failure to ensure a child protection plan was followed. Maria Ward faces charges of failure to follow a child protection plan and keep records of visits up to date.

The hearings, set for 24th May, will examine whether the social workers have committed misconduct and, if so, what sanction should be imposed. Both cases will be heard together and are expected to last up to four days.
