Law Commission to recruit new Commissioner for Public Law and the Law in Wales
The Law Commission has begun the process of looking for a new Public Law and Law in Wales Commissioner, who will be appointed on a full-time basis for a term of five years, commencing in February 2024.
The successful candidate would oversee the work of the Public Law and Law in Wales team, whose completed and ongoing projects span topics such as automated vehicles, devolved tribunals in Wales, compulsory purchase, and disabled children’s social care.
The Law Commission, which is led by a Chair and four Commissioners, said: “The role of Commissioner is not restricted to the academic task of drafting consultation papers and reports. Commissioners play a key part in meeting with stakeholders and contributing towards strategic decisions which affect the organisation.
“Together, they have a collective responsibility for ensuring the Commission’s reputation for quality, impartiality, and independence is maintained.”
The law reform advisory body added: “The Commission is encouraging applications from individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, who have excelled in the field of public law, have the ability to successfully deal with the law in Wales, and are committed to the importance of delivering effective law reform.”
More information on the Commissioner role is available here.
Applications should be submitted here, by 11am on Wednesday 31 May 2023.
The current Law Commissioner with responsibility for public law is Nicholas Paines KC, who was first appointed to the role in November 2013. In July 2018 he was reappointed for a further five years.
