Law Society proposes freeze on PC fee
The costs of a practising certificate for individual solicitors will remain unchanged at £278 for 2019/20 the Law Society and the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) have proposed.
In their consultation on PC fee levels for the 2019/20 year, the regulators noted that the growth in the number of PC fee payers and further efficiencies in the regulatory process meant that no increase in the fee was required, meaning that it will have remained at the same level for three years.
In addition to the cost of running the SRA, the PC fee includes levies for the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, the Legal Services Board, the Financial Conduct Authority (to focus on money laundering activity), and the Legal Ombudsman.
The consultation closes on 28th June. The consulation document is available at https://www.lawsociety.org.uk/news/documents/tls-pc-consultation-fee-booklet-may-2019/
