Judicial mentoring scheme launched to support under-represented groups

The Judicial Office has launched a new judicial mentoring scheme aiming to address the under-representation of women, Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic (BAME) lawyers in the judiciary.

This is – alongside the encouragement of greater socio-economic diversity – a priority area for both the Lord Chief Justice and the Senior President of Tribunals.

The Judicial Office said the scheme was open to barristers, solicitors and legal executives (within the above under-represented target groups) who:

• have participated in the Judicial Work Shadowing Scheme; and
• are seeking an appointment in the next two years (or at the next available opportunity).

The scheme is also open to professionally qualified legal academics and to judges seeking to progress to higher office within the same period.
