Birmingham City Council to appoint legal services provider for life sciences campus scheme

Birmingham City Council is to appoint a legal services provider to advise on a major regeneration scheme in the Selly Oak area that will include the proposed site of the Birmingham Life Sciences Campus.

Birmingham Property Services said it was “seeking a suitably qualified organisation that can provide specific legal services to facilitate the development of the site”.

The contract will be for a period of 18 months subject to satisfactory performance and will commence on 20 June 2016.

The life sciences campus is part of the regeneration of the former Battery site, which comprises 30 acres. The site has been derelict for 30 years and has a history of use for landfill.

A joint venture between Land Securities and Sainsbury’s, the scheme is expected to deliver a range of shops, bars and restaurants as well as 2,700 jobs.
