Bevan Brittan hails performance in core markets as it confirms staff pay rise and ‘thank you’ bonus

Law firm Bevan Brittan has confirmed a 3% staff pay rise, to take place in March, plus an additional 3% ‘thank you bonus’ for staff to be applied to the last six months and paid now.

The firm said the move follows a review of current trading and “as a strong financial year nears its conclusion”.

Bevan Brittan postponed its 2020 annual pay review last September as it negotiated the fallout from the pandemic.

It became one of the first law firms to announce in August that it was repaying the money received from the Government’s furlough scheme.

Bevan Brittan has said it will now also go ahead with its 2020/21 year performance bonus scheme, to be implemented in July 2021 as usual and its annual pay review in September 2021.

Duncan Weir, Managing Partner, Bevan Brittan, said: “Our trading since the time of our usual pay review in September 2020 has been encouraging and our colleagues have all played a part in ensuring our success has continued despite the obvious difficulties caused by the pandemic.

“Although we did not reduce pay, we did suspend the usual pay review last September but, because we now have more certainty than we did last year, it is right to carry out this pay review and to say thank you for the last six months.”

He added: “Both the additional increase and the thank you bonus recognise and reward our staff for their professionalism, resilience and how they have been able to continue to provide excellent support for all our clients in the most challenging of circumstances.”

Weir said the business continued to perform well in its core markets of Local Government, Healthcare and Housing and had also grown its presence significantly in emerging markets across Higher Education, Construction, Financial Services and Energy & Resource Management.

Bevan Brittan topped £50m in income for the first time in its history in 2019/20 with profit increasing by 13.8%.
