Cornerstone Barristers bolsters housing and local government teams with arrival of Sarah Salmon

Sarah Salmon, a specialist in local government, housing and property law and chair of the Social Housing Law Association, has joined Cornerstone Barristers.

She has represented public bodies (including the police), charities, local authorities, housing associations, individuals and companies in her specialist areas.

Salmon has also taken on a lot of voluntary work and was highly Commended in the 2020 Junior Pro Bono Barrister of the Year category at the Advocate Bar Pro Bono Awards. In October 2020, she was chosen to take part in the Bar Council's inaugural leadership programme.

Her practice includes all aspects of housing law, including anti-social behaviour, gaining tenancies by deception, subletting and failed successions. She is regularly instructed in cases raising issues of capacity, public law defences and the Equality Act 2010. She also has experience in cases concerning allocations, Gypsy and Traveller law, Children Act 1989, Local Government Act 1972, Environmental Protection Act 1990, welfare benefits, private landlord and tenant, leasehold issues and disrepair.

Salmon participated in the Master of the Rolls Working Group on possession proceedings in 2020. In 2019, she was part of the JUSTICE housing disputes working party and in 2018, she was part of the advisory board from the report 'Closing the Gaps: Health and Safety in Housing', commissioned by the charity Shelter following the Grenfell Tower fire.
