Consultation issued on improving judicial disciplinary system

The Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice have launched a consultation on proposals for improvements to the judicial disciplinary system in England and Wales.

The 41 proposals in the consultation document were developed by an independent working group over the course of a comprehensive year-long review, the Ministry of Justice and the Judicial Office said.

They cover a range of issues including improvements to the statutory complaints-handling process, measures to promote transparency, and steps to improve diversity amongst the judges and lay people who work within the system.

The MoJ and the Judicial Office said: “An effective disciplinary system is vital to maintaining public confidence in the judiciary. This consultation is an opportunity for those with an interest in the system to inform decisions that will shape how it operates in future.”
