Former mayor secures adjournment to Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal hearing

The former elected mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, has secured an adjournment to disciplinary proceedings brought against him by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal had been due to hear the SRA’s prosecution over four days this week (7-10 March). The SRA had made a range of allegations following an Election Court ruling in April 2015.

However, the SDT has confirmed that the substantive hearing was adjourned  this week due to judicial review proceedings Rahman, a non-practising solicitor, has brought.

The SDT said there would be a further case management hearing either in four months' time or after the determination of Rahman’s application to amend the grounds for judicial review whichever is sooner.

The allegations against Rahman are subject to an SDT hearing and as yet unproven.
