Croydon selects Browne Jacobson for seven-year, £17.5m sole provider deal

The London Borough of Croydon has named Browne Jacobson as its sole external legal services provider for a contract that could last for seven years.

The contract had previously been advertised as worth an estimated £17.5m over its lifetime.

Browne Jacobson will advise on core areas such as commercial, property/planning, civil litigation and employment work.

The deal, commencing 1 January 2018, will replace the council’s existing panel arrangement. In 2011 Croydon named 10 firms to its panel.

Craig Elder, Browne Jacobson’s relationship partner for Croydon, said: “We are really delighted with this appointment, which places us at the cutting-edge of the local authority legal market, and builds on the partnering model of legal services we have developed with clients over the last few years. It is a testament to the effectiveness of the genuine partnership approach that we seek to deliver."

Jacqueline Harris-Baker, Director of Law at Croydon, said: “We’re really pleased to have appointed Browne Jacobson as our sole legal services provider, in what will be a new way of working for Croydon and for local government. Browne Jacobson has wealth of public sector experience and we see this innovative partnership approach as a great boost for Croydon both in terms of quality, expertise and value for money."
