No5 Chambers pays tribute following death of one of its family law barristers

No5 Chambers has paid tribute to Sara McCarthy, a barrister in its Family Law Group who died suddenly and unexpectedly in her sleep over the weekend.

McCarthy completed her pupillage at St Mary’s Family Law Chambers in 2010 and joined No5 in 2013.

In the public law field she had a particular interest in cases involving neglect, physical and emotional abuse, non accidental injury and sexual abuse.

McCarthy represented several local authorities and professionals including the Official Solicitor, and also regularly undertook work for both parents and children.

In a statement No5 said it was “with great sadness” that it reported her death. “Sara was a hardworking, ambitious and popular member of chambers with a vibrant personality. More importantly she is the mother of two children, aged 16 and 13 who were central to everything she achieved and hoped to achieve. Our thoughts are with them both and indeed with all family members and friends who knew Sara well at this difficult time.”
