Gove named Justice Secretary with Communities Secretary yet to be confirmed

Michael Gove has been named Justice Secretary and Lord Chancellor in David Cameron’s new Cabinet, with a reported brief of driving through the Conservative Party manifesto vow to scrap the Human Rights Act.

Gove replaces Chris Grayling, who becomes Leader of the House of Commons.

The posts of Communities and Local Government Secretary – occupied by Eric Pickles throughout the previous Parliament – and Health Secretary have yet to be confirmed.

Announced appointments relevant to the local government sector see Nicky Morgan and Ian Duncan-Smith retain their roles as Education Secretary and Work & Pensions Secretary respectively.

Theresa May has also kept her position as Home Secretary.

Boris Johnson will attend Conservative 'political Cabinet' meetings but will not run a Government department, with one year left as Mayor of London.
