Browne Jacobson lawyer gets top mark in Diploma in Local Government Law

A lawyer at Browne Jacobson has won the prize for best overall candidate in the Law Society’s Diploma in Local Government Law and Practice exam.

Alex Kynoch, a public sector law specialist in the firm’s Nottingham office, will receive the Local Government Legal Society Trust Fund prize at an awards ceremony at the Law Society in December.

The diploma was established in 1983 to provide specialist training for solicitors working in local government. It is now open to solicitors and barristers who undertake local government work in the private sector as well as to lawyers working for local authorities.

The course involves completion of three 4,000-word assignments each on a practical problem question and two 2¼ hour exams.

Kynoch said: “The course has been valuable in helping to raise my awareness of the specific issues that impact on local government and it will undoubtedly help me when advising clients.”

Peter Ware, head of the government and infrastructure team at Browne Jacobson, said: “We are delighted for Alex and proud that he has been awarded the prize for achieving the highest results out of all the local government solicitors and barristers studying for the diploma.”
