Executive head of legal leaves London borough after corporate re-organisation

The Executive Head of Legal Services at Sutton Council is to leave after a corporate re-organisation at the authority.

Sanjay Prashar had been in the role since joining Sutton in 2009 from the London Borough of Dagenham, where he had been Deputy Head of Law. He has also previously held positions at Torbay, Bracknell Forest and Surrey.

Sutton said he had played “a pivotal role in helping the council move away from the cabinet system and implement a more democratic committee system”.

Prashar had also helped set up the South London Legal Partnership, the shared service between Kingston, Merton, Richmond and Sutton Councils.

Niall Bolger, Sutton’s chief executive, said:  “Sanjay has had a hugely positive impact on Sutton and has given 100% commitment to the borough throughout his time here.

“When Sanjay arrived here we agreed that Sutton Council needed to make changes, including changing our system of governance and sharing services with neighbouring boroughs in order to provide real value for money for our residents.”

Bolger added: “He has absolutely delivered and set Sutton on the right path. I wish him well for the future.”

Prashar is currently studying towards a Masters in Public Administration on a Part Time basis at Queen Mary University.
