Government Procurement Service extends legal services framework for third time

The Government Procurement Service has extended its current framework for legal services yet again as it continues to work on its replacement.

The expiry date for call-off contracts under the 2007 legal services framework had been 30 November. However, the arrangements will now last until 31 January 2013.

The GPS website warns that any orders placed under the framework must be completed by 31 May 2013.

Local Government Lawyer understands that the procurement of legal services for one major project has been axed because of this backstop date.

A Cabinet Office spokeswoman said: “The current legal services framework has been extended until 31 January 2013 to provide continuity of service whilst the replacement framework is under development.

“The new framework is being developed following collaboration and consultation with key stakeholders. It aims to deliver the highest quality legal services for the public sector and the best value for the taxpayer, so it’s important that we take the time to get this right.”

This is thought to be the third time the current framework agreement has been extended.

Up to £250m in legal work could be put up for grabs via its replacement, which will last for an initial two years.

The GPS will also have an option to extend the agreement for a further one year, plus one year.
