Kolvin takes over chairmanship of Best Bar None licensing award scheme

Leading licensing barrister Philip Kolvin QC has been appointed as the new chairman of the Best Bar None scheme.

The award scheme, which is supported by the Home Office, is aimed at promoting responsible management and operation of alcohol licensed premises.

Kolvin, a tenant at Cornerstone Barristers and Patron of the Institute of Licensing, takes over after the resignation of Lord Redesdale, who has been chairman since 2007.

Kolvin said: “I am pleased and honoured to have been asked to chair this important scheme. Best Bar None plays a dual role of improving the economic viability of bars while reducing crime and disorder and the need for regulatory intervention, all crucial attributes in the current economic and political climate.

“I intend to use my time as Chairman to work with the Board to increase the prevalence and profile of the scheme while maintaining the rigorous standards required of Best Bar None participants.”
