Homes England launches Section 106 affordable housing “clearing service”
Homes England has set up a database of available Section 106 housing opportunities across England, excluding London.
The database will contain details of housebuilders’ uncontracted and unsold Section 106 affordable homes.
Local authorities, registered providers and housebuilders can register to use what has been dubbed a “clearing service”.
Homes England and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will also have access.
Homes England said: "Housebuilders can use the service to provide details of affordable homes they have planning permission to build, alongside private homes, but have been unable to find a buyer for. This information is then available for RPs and LAs to view.
"This means greater visibility of opportunities, all in one place, for buyers and sellers to connect, build new partnerships and work together to get affordable homes sold and occupied."
It added that the service would develop over the coming months and be refined according to user feedback.
The clearing house will not cover London as the Greater London Authority has responsibility for affordable housing delivery.
